By the Lake..

A lake carries you into recesses of feeling otherwise impenetrable..William Wordsworth.

I met Jo after taking some photos of  the wedding band she sings in The Moog69’s, ( they are brilliant check them out!) she came to me looking for new photos for her website and solo church side of things, so we had a chat over a coffee, clicked straight away and started planning. She was very open to ideas and naturally goes with a bit of a rock chick vibe, I like to try to push things a little out of the ordinary but still stay in that comfort zone so it’s not forced and unnatural, so after talking to Jo I knew Jill would be brilliant at bringing all of our ideas together, more coffee… loads of ideas.. we always tend to go waaaaay beyond the brief, get super excited then nail it down to something not too scary! So off we went to Glendalough one morning, it was an awesome day outside in the cold, wandering around the beautiful lake and playing in the trees, it was really fun! and this is what happened…….

I did share a few photos before but I love them so much I had to show you some more, It would be the perfect romantic spot for an engagement shoot or even a family portrait session with the kids splashing by the water.

Thanks to Jill for her styling on the day and to Jo for being so good at standing in cold water!!

Gorgeous (…and cold) Glendalough

Heres a little teaser from a stunning outdoor shoot i did this weekend with the lovely Jo for her new website.

I arrived in the morning with Jill who i often collaborate with and was styling for the day, check out her website for more about her .  We wandered up to the lake and it was absolutely breathtaking, the water was still, there were low clouds in the valley and it was quiet, although a bit chilly! It was everything id hoped for when planning the shoot so i was super excited to see what we could get up to!

We had several outfit changes in the day, lots of cold water to contend with and plenty of tourists watching us, Jo did so well taking all my directions!!  Heres a small taster of the shoot…

Network Ireland style clinic

Last week I went to a Network Ireland night in the Osprey Hotel, its aimed at women in business and I thought it would be good fun to go and see what its all about.  Sonya  Lennon was there to give a talk and there were members showcasing their businesses too, I had my camera with me as I was asked to take a few pics of my friend Jill Blanc Designs table, it was the best one in the room by far, she’d put so much effort into it as always.

One thing that struck a chord with me about Sonya Lennons talk was ‘Collaboration’- she said that if you can get a small group of individuals together and work between yourselves and help each other in different aspects of your businesses then you will get further, I really agree with this approach, some people will be better at advertising than you, or you might be the creative one in the group, it all adds up to working really well as a whole. Its something i want to do more of this year, working with likeminded creatives and doing some more styled shoots and we all win!  Anyway, I’m glad I went, I will probably join as a member in January and get to go to more of these things 🙂

Heres a few photos, I didnt get one of Sonya as I was too busy listening to what she was saying!!

Paper cuts & Peonies – A styled shoot for Jill Blanc Designs

jill blanc designs

…. heres something ive been working on recently with a supertalented lady, Jill. She makes wedding invitations and lots of other pretty paper things, i love her style and even though she’d never been in front of the camera she was the perfect model 🙂

check out her work on  Facebook or Website

It was a full days shoot, with a couple of wardrobe changes, we had Jills house as the backdrop and we styled the kitchen table with some of her yummy cupcakes and pretty knicknacks she has,  Jill wanted to show both sides of her personality, the rock chick (check out her handmade headpiece too) and the pretty in pink look. Even though i love pink my favourites ended up being the ‘cover girl’ style , a bit fierce and very cool rock chick!

We had the perfect day, im sure Jill would agree   🙂

(i shot natural light with the 60D and almost all the photos are with the 50mm  1.4 lens)
